5 January - 11 January, HUMN 311

My research for this class will be about Narrative and Symbol Based.

Early, I researched pattern of historical fashion and building before two year, I went to various old historical places in China. Also I learned historical background, and then I thought a lot about how to relate the historical information and my painting style. The Chinese Ombres Chinoises has influenced me most in my painting style.

An example of my painting project:

“New Pattern”. 30”*36”, Acrylic on canvas, 2014.
This work about the redefinition of an subject. I researched patterns from old history and buildings, and put the new elements into the re-composition, and  coloring for my painting. The goal is to express the social phenomenon which has taken place or char many happen in the further.

Other example of my painting project:

“The Phenomenon of Evolution”. 48”*60”, Acrylic on canvas, 2014.

This painting is focusing on using symbol’s, patterns and to relate them to the subject of history and ritual culture. The pattern looks like a “flake” that and for me represents the passing of history, The contour line is a symbol of geologic maps represents the diversity of nature land we live in. The center is a symbol of a historical scene about ritual culture. These three spaces impact each other and together as a stage performing the civilize history and land and now they effect each other, and link tightly.

For next, I will research more information about culture and symbol from old building (Rome, Greece, China...) and old fashion (clothes, symbolic artist book...), and research how to create a relationship between narrative (some specific things) and symbol (the elements from a specific period), and to create my own pattern by my research.
